America's Firearm Database Is A Mess Of Billions Of Little Slips Of Paper

There is no national registration system for guns in the United States. Instead, when law enforcement need gun ownership information they reach out to the National Tracing Center whose job it is to reach out to the importer who gives them the wholesaler's information who gives them the retail gun dealer's information who, finally, can hopefully give them the gun owner's information. It's clearly a smart and streamlined system.
